Autism Life Skills and Empowerment Strategies: Preparing for Real Life

Presented by Chantal Sicile-Kira

With advice and reflections from adults on the autism spectrum, as well as personal experience as an advocate and parent of a young adult with an autism spectrum disorder, Chantal Sicile-Kira will share hard-won wisdom and practical tips on how parents and professionals can prepare their students of all ages and ability levels (and themselves) for adulthood. This session will provide practical strategies for teaching necessary life skills, focusing on the student’s strengths, developing work or career skills, preparing for college, and building on a person’s strength or special interest to create community connections and employment opportunities.

About Chantal Sicile-Kira:

    Chantal Sicile-Kira’s passion for empowering others, her love of writing, and her personal interest in autism has led her to become an award-winning author of five books, speaker, and leader in the field of adolescence and transition to adulthood. Chantal recently founded, which provides practical information and training on-line for parents and educators. Chantal has received numerous awards including the National Autism Association 2013 Jo Pike Believe Award, the 2012 Baron Inspiration Award (from Vista Del Mar in Los Angeles), and an Autism Society of America Literary Work of the Year Award. Chantal’s son Jeremy was highlighted in the award-winning MTV True Life “I Have Autism.”
